Frozen Thunder in Canmore, Alberta is an early season ski track made of stored, machine-made snow.  Snow made the previous winter is stored over the summer in protected locations and covered in sawdust. When fall comes the stored snow is spread onto a cross country ski trail to create the Frozen Thunder Loop.  This allows athletes to start their on-snow training in October.

This fall the loop was 4 kilometers in length, the grooming was first class and more than 30 athletes from BC (from five clubs) travelled to Canmore during the final week of October to spend some quality time on snow.  BC Ski Team Assistant Coach, Zach Hill was on site to work with these athletes and get their winter season off on the right foot by helping them with their technique.

The conditions were right for two practice sessions a day, so the athletes were able to put in a lot of hours/kilometers alongside National Team Members, World Cup Skiers, recent World Champions and NCAA Teams.

Everyone went home tired and eager for snow to arrive in their home town.
