SELECTION CRITERIA: 2023 CANADA WINTER GAMES

Dates: February 23-March 2, 2019
Size of Team: 12 Able-Bodied athletes (6 male and 6 female)
4 Para-Nordic athletes (2 male and 2 female)

Selection Criteria (Able-bodied)
1. Athletes must meet the eligibility regulations outlined in section 4 of the 2023 Canada Winter Games Cross Country Ski & Para-Nordic Technical Package (see: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qail5kGmcSY73qePC9HCJIarehDIMGyc/view).
2. Athletes must be 20 years of age and under (born in 2003 or later).
3. A total of six male and six female athletes will be selected.
4. The following Trial races will be used:
Men
Teck BC Cup #1, Whistler, BC Jan 7, 2023 Classic Technique, Individual Sprint, 1200 m
Teck BC Cup #1, Whistler, BC Jan 8, 2023 Free Technique, Interval Start, 10 km
Women
Teck BC Cup #1, Whistler, BC Jan 7, 2023 Classic Technique, Individual Sprint, 1200 m
Teck BC Cup #1, Whistler, BC Jan 8, 2023 Free Technique, Interval Start, 5 km
5. Athletes will be selected based on the following:
5.1 They finish first among the eligible athletes in one of the four Trial races
5.2 They finish 2nd, 3rd or 4th among eligible athletes in the Men’s ‘distance’ Trial race
5.3 They finish 2nd, 3rd or 4th among eligible athletes in the Women’s ‘distance’ Trial race
5.4 The discretion of the Athlete Development Committee who may consider “force majeure”, CPL points, past performance, results from early season races, etc. to assist them in fielding the best overall team for the sprint, distance and relay events.
6. Athletes must be in financial good standing with Cross Country BC.
Selection Criteria (Para-Nordic)
1. Athletes must meet the eligibility regulations outlined in section 4 of the 2023 Canada Winter Games Cross Country Ski & Para-Nordic Technical Package (see: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qail5kGmcSY73qePC9HCJIarehDIMGyc/view).
2. Athletes must be classified.
3. Athletes must be 30 years of age and under (born in 1993 or later).
4. A total of two male and two female athletes will be selected. One athlete per gender will be selected from the ‘Standing’ category and one from the ‘Sitting’ category (provided there are eligible athletes to fill all four of these positions).
5. If there is more than one eligible athlete competing for a position in any of the four Para- Nordic categories, Teck BC Cup #1, Day #2 will be used as a Trial race for selection purposes.
6. The athlete who finishes first among the eligible athletes in the Trials race will be selected.
7. Athletes must be in financial good standing with Cross Country BC.
