2010-11 CCBC Trip Selection Criteria
Teams chosen to represent British Columbia at inter-provincial or international ski competitions will be called the "BC Ski Team" for the duration of the trip.
2011 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Site: Canmore, Alberta
Dates: March 12 - 20, 2011
Size of Team 10 athletes
Trials: BC Cup #2, February 4-6, 2011
(Individual Sprint - FT, Interval Start - CT, Mass Start - FT)
Selection Criteria:
An athlete must demonstrate the ability to finish in the top three in their respective category at the 2010 National Championships to be selected. Selection will be based on the following:
1. Athletes named to the National Ski Team for the 2010/11 ski year automatically qualify.
2. Athletes selected to the 2011 U-23 World Championship team automatically qualify.
3. Athletes selected to the 2011 World Junior Championship team automatically qualify.
4. The ages classes eligible for selection are Senior Men/Women (1990 and older), Juvenile Boy (1995), Junior Boy (1993-94), Junior Male (1991-92), Juvenile Girl (1995-96), Junior Girl (1993-94), Junior Female (1991-92).
5. The Athlete Development Committee will select 75% of the Team based on the trial races, the Canada Points List (CPL) and the Canada Sprints List (CSL). For the sprint race, the times from the qualification round will be used. The athletes qualifying by criteria #1, 2 & 3 are a part of this 75%.
6. For selection purposes the Y.O.B. (Juvenile B/G, Junior B/G and Junior M/F categories) and senior category winner of each Trial race will receive 100 points.
7. The number of positions per age category will be allocated as follows. Prior to the selection race, using the most recent CPL and CSL, the points of the top five athletes in Canada in each eligible class, classic and skating, will be determined. The athlete with the highest points in each eligible class will be compared against the average of the best five athletes in Canada in the same class. This will give a ranking for the relative national performance of the BC athletes. The athletes will be selected on the relative national performance.
For example:
Average of the best five athletes in Canada:
JM – 1: 80.00 JVB – 2: 70.00
Trial race points of the top three BC athletes:
JM – 1: 79.50 JVB – 2: 64.00
78.80 63.00
77.00 62.00
These hypothetical figures would indicate a strong class of JM -1 athletes, and a weak class of JVB – 2 athletes. All JM – 1 athletes would qualify on points before a JVB – 2 athlete.
THIS PROCESS WILL BE USED TO FILL THE SPOTS IN THE 75%.
8. The remaining 25% will be filled in at the discretion of the Athlete Development Committee, and may include “force majeure”, CPL points, CSL points, past performances, etc.
9. All athletes must be current members of Cross Country BC in good standing with the Association.
The trip expenses will be subsidized by Cross Country BC.
11. If the trial races are cancelled due to cold weather or lack of snow, the first alternative will be to hold the trials on a different date, and the second alternative will be to use a combination of CPL/CSL Points and results from 2011 BC Cup races that were held.
Cross Country BC clubs are encouraged to support their developing athletes by:
a) sending a club team to support their athletes that don’t qualify for the BC Ski Team,
b) coordinating with other CCBC clubs to support those that don’t qualify, and/or
c) financially supporting them to attend the Nationals with Group-2.
All athletes at the National Championships will be represented by their Division coaching staff (in this case, the BC Ski Team coaching staff) for draw meetings, protests, etc. Cross Country BC coaching staff will coordinate with club coaches from BC to provide support to all BC athletes with respect to waxing information, splits on the course, etc. However only athletes that are attending the event as part of the BC Ski Team will be eligible for full BC Ski Team coaching support, ground transportation, waxes, etc.
